Brief History
Maine CITE is a federally funded program to increase education about and access to assistive technologies. The program began in 1989 and is still going strong today. Every state and US territory has an assistive technology program and all programs collaborate to better serve our residents. Through this national network, Maine CITE has access to a wealth of knowledge and resources.

Maine CITE is committed to helping Maine citizens with disabilities increase access to and acquisition of AT when needed to participate in Education, Community Living, Employment and Information Technology/Telecommunications.
- Broaden understanding and promote wider availability of assistive and universally-designed technology.
- Educate people with disabilities, their families, and the general public to know how to get and use assistive and universally-designed technology.
- Facilitate the role of people with disabilities in helping to shape public policy that promotes assistive and universally-designed technology.
- Ensure that Maine is a place where all people with disabilities have ready access to the technology they need to live full, independent and productive lives.
Partners
Maine CITE has historically coordinated with partners from around the state to provide services to Mainers. Partners work collaboratively to provide short-term device loans, demonstrations, technical assistance and public awareness events. Our current partners are:

Gallant Therapy Services provides occupational therapy, speech therapy, community supports services, work supports, and more in Augusta, Lewiston, Oakland, and Hermon Maine.

Pine Tree Society Locations in Auburn, Bath, Scarborough and Rome Maine.

Spurwink ALLTECH operates a refurbishing and reuse program that provides low cost, lightly used refurbished AT device and durable medical equipment to consumers, families, children and seniors in Maine. Located in Portland Maine.

Located in UMF’s Kalikow Education Center and managed by the staff of Mantor Library, the Spenciner Curriculum Materials Center provides materials and educational experiences for pre-service and in-service teachers, education professionals, individuals with disabilities, and their families.
The Maine CITE Program has a strong tradition of collaboration with state agencies and service providers. The AT Advisory Council members and AT Consortium partners help to broaden the Maine CITE Program’s communication and involvement across Maine to meet the ongoing challenges of assuring that AT is included in changing state policies.
